This drawing was inspired by the group’s collaboration process, which materialised the dream studio concept as if it were an augmented reality experience. The aim to paint our dream studio together ended up facilitating a way for the dream studio to come to life more as an event, rather than a space. Escaping our daily lives in the midst of a pandemic through our screens and allowing ourselves to immerse into each other’s worlds and perspectives generated a virtual, yet palpable space of creation and collaboration. Playing with that idea, the dream studio here takes a step further in illustrating the surreal situation, as it presents the studio as an obscure and confusing assemblage on the artist’s desk.
The series is part of the ‘May Painting’ project that came out of a collaboration with Matty Mo (The Most Famous Artist). The ‘May Painting’ project is an international internet-based co-creation laboratory, bringing together over 50 makers, artists, collectors, thinkers, and doers to share insights and experiences, exchange ideas and help shape the vision for a culturally relevant artwork.
