A miracle in the desert

Description

After visiting the Salton Sea, what struck me the most is its ephemeral characteristic. Its fantastical character lays within the 1960’s resort and retirement area which didn’t manage to reach its purpose. Exploring this place became a journey with as a terminal stage backdrop, where the main aim of everything from fish, birds, houses and people is to die or disintegrate, becoming evidence of the past.

This is one of the drawings that came out of the project, which speculates on the Salton Sea being the “final destination”.  Therefore becoming the last view of the individual – the last simulation of reality. This triggers the idea of designing a framing apparatus that ultimately accommodates the individual for the “last 3 months” before death.

The proposed architecture aims to change during this period, adjusting itself, fading away along with the individual. Ultimately disappearing altogether. It is detached from the trailer it once infested and disposed of, allowing for the next person to become part of this metabolism.
